While we have been in New Mexico my oldest son was hoping for some snow. Well on Wednesday there was a little bit of snow with rain, which meant that it was not going to stick since the rain just made it wet and the snow was unable to stick in Albuquerque. In other parts of the state it did stick a little, and the mountain was starting to look pretty in white.

Thursday it was sunny most of the day which allowed it to dry the ground. By the middle of the afternoon, there was a weather warning issued for the area about a blizzard possibility. This made us hope that we would be able to play in the snow the next day and when it started turning night the snow did start to fall.

We met some family members for dinner and when we got to the restaurant there was a little bit of snow falling, but not much. By the time we were done eating the snow had started to fall more and the roads were starting to get icy because the first bit of snow had melted on the roadways and it was turning to ice. When we arrived back at the uncle’s house we were staying at, our Uncle Monty was getting ready to head home and before he did he gave my one-year-old some of the fresh snow and he loved it so much he asked for more two times before we got him ready for bed.

Friday morning we awoke to about 5 or more inches of snow on the ground. I sent my oldest out with his cousin to gather up some snow into some bowls and then when my husband returned home from the store he made some snow ice cream with the children’s help. They all enjoyed getting to mix the snow with the milk. It was very simple to make. He just added two capfuls of vanilla a few splashes of milk (we used some cow milk and then did another one with Almond milk because we have some dairy allergies in the family,) and some sugar just to taste. All of the children loved the snow ice cream.

I was able to take the three older children out to the golf course close by with Uncle Monty to go sledding. Before we left the house the boys laid down in the grass and made a few snow angels. They had a lot of fun riding the sleds down the big hills. We were able to stay out there for about an hour and a half. The oldest took off his mittens halfway through the sledding and by the time we left he had some really cold hands. The middle child enjoyed the sledding a little, but he preferred to just lay down in the snow and play. My girl had a blast going down on the sled both on her own and with her twin brother when he felt like going down.

Both the boys ended up with their mittens off, and so we figured that when they started to complain about their hands being cold it was time to head home. We went home and had some hot chocolate to help warm us all up. It was a good day and the children had fun in the snow. I even went down a couple of times with the two younger ones.

While we never can fully tell what the weather is going to do, we are hoping for a little more snow so that we can go and sled some more tomorrow. While it is possible we will not hold our breath for it. No one can fully predict the weather, but even if it does not snow more there are still some mountains close by that we can probably find a few hills to sled down and maybe even make a snowman.
